YMCA Cricket Academy

The YMCA Cricket academy for the year 2010-11 was inaugurated by Mr. K. J. George, M.L.A of Sevanagar. Around 160 students had enrolled for the 2010-11 year long cricket skill training programme. They were grouped in to four different categories: Under -11years, 12-14 years, 15 – 17 years above 17 years. Regular coaching classes were conducted at our YMCA grounds on Friday & Saturday between 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and on Sundays between 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m.  Eight coaches regularly conducted the coaching classes.

Cricket Tournament Exposures with local cricket teams

Tournament exposure for our cricket academy students in different categories was conducted at the YMCA grounds.  They played with:

1. J.K. Cricket Academy Bangalore

2. Bangalore Cricket Academy

3. Magadi Cricket Academy

National Tournaments exposure with teams from other Cities

Bhopal Cricket team visited Bangalore YMCA on 7th January 2011 and played four matches with our Cricket Academy students.  Teams from Chennai, Goa also played matches with our boys.

Peace and Friendship Cup Tournament with Srilanka

Sri Lanka Cricket Team visited our YMCA Cricket Academy and played matches throughout the year. NCC Cricket Academy from Colombo under the leadership of Mr.Wickramasinghe visited YMCA Cricket Academy from 17th October 2010 and played eight friendly matches with our academy students. Mr. S. V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary YMCA, distributed the prizes to the winning teams.

Piliyandala Town Sports Club Cricket Academy

Vidura College Cricket Team, Colombo

Under the leadership of Mr. Ketipearachchi, the PILIYANDALA town cricket academy of Srilanka, played four matches with our Cricket Academy students from 3rd to 6th December 2010 as part of their International match exposure programme and they won in three matches. A farewell party was organized on 6th December 2010 for the Srilankan Cricket Team. Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary and Dr. Antony Isaac, Director-Cricket Academy distributed prizes and certificates to the participants.

Vidura College Cricket Teams Under-15 years and, 16-18 years team visited YMCA Bangalore Cricket Academy from 26th to 28th Dec 2010.

Visit of Bangalore YMCA Cricket Academy teams (Under 15 & 16-18 years team) to Colombo from 10th to 16th January 2011.

26 students, two coaches and the Director of the Cricket Academy Dr. M. Antony Isaac travelled to Sri Lanka and played nine matches with different teams in Colombo and Kandy. The match details as follows:

  • Prince of Wales School ground/college, Moratuwa Colombo Western Cricket Club (Mr. Wickramasinghe) on 10th and 11th January 2011.
  • St. Thomas College ground, Mt. Launia, Colombo on 12th January 2011
  • Dharmaraja College, Kandy, Sri Lanka on 13th January 2011
  • Peradenioya University, Kandy on 14th January 2011
  • Vidura College, Colombo on 15th January 2011.

The team had a comfortable stay at Colombo and by God’s Grace rains did not disrupt any of the matches. Mr. Susil Hettiaratchi Co-ordinated our programmes at Colombo and Mr. Wijewickrama coordinated the programmes at Kandy. National Council of YMCAs of Sri Lanka supported our programmes. Mr. Ketipearachchi, Mr. Vickramasinghe and Mr. Mahendra Raja, Mr. Upali helped us in conducting the matches at the different play grounds at Colombo.  The team returned back safely on 16th January 2011.

Valedictory Function of YMCA Cricket Academy

A grand Valedictory function was organized on the 26th February 2011 at the City YMCA. Dr. J. Alexander, I.A.S. (Retd) President YMCA Bangalore was the Chief Guest. The president congratulated the team and awarded the medals and certificates to the team members who visited Sri Lanka for the tournaments. Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary gave away the medals to some of the participants. Dr. Antony Isaac thanked the parents and academy students.
