General Programmes

26th Annual Learn Skill Camp

Learn Skill coaching camp was organized from 10th April to 10th May 2010. Ysm. P.V. Kurian was the Chairman of the organizing Committee for this year.

Nearly seven hundred students both boys and girls participated in the camp and enrolled in the following activities: Cricket, lawn tennis, western dance, karate, computers, agility fitness, basket ball, shuttle badminton, personality development, aerobics, adventure camp, foot ball, swimming, fun & creative workshop. Summer camp was also conduct at other YMCA branches in the city including Children in Crisis Centres. During the camp other activities like quiz competition, talents day, and health check up camps were organized. A valedictory function was held on 14th May 2010 and the participants were awarded camp certificates and prizes.

Our heartfelt thanks to Ysm. P.V. Kurien, Chairman of the 26th Learn Skill Camp 2010 for his dynamic leadership in successfully conducting the summer camp 2010.

Theme: Women Creating a Safe World”

Inaugural Worship Service

The YMCA Bangalore organized a Sunrise worship service on 8th November 2010 at City YMCA Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore. Around 150 people attended the worship service. The programme began with an invocation by the nursing college students of St. Martha’s Hospital, Bangalore.  Mr. Arun Ravindra Kumar Karodi, Assistant General Secretary, YMCA welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest. Mrs. Christie Suganthi Renick brought out the message based on the Bible.  She spoke on the role of women, women’s rights and their duties and called upon to create a healthy society. Ms.Iba Asst.Programme Secretary, YWCA sang a melodious hymn and made everyone feel the presence of God.  

Mr. M. J. Narendranath, Former General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore, Mrs. Esther Ammana, Religious Committee Chairperson YWCA, Mrs. Agnes Madhuravani, Former President YWCA, Mrs. Sumanavathi, YWCA Member, Mrs. Latha Paul General Secretary, YWCA Bangalore attended the worship service. Mrs. Promodini Narendranath, Member of the Board YMCA Bangalore graced the occasion. The Staff and students of the YMCA College of Physical Education actively involved in the programme and a fellowship breakfast was arranged for all the participants.

Week of Prayer observation at CIC centers

Week of prayer was also observed at Doddigunta, Yeshwantpur, and Kadugondanahalli CIC centres on 16th November 2010. At the Kadugondanahalli centre Mrs.Vimala, the Nursing Instructor at Mediscon hospital spoke about health & hygiene, child care and adolescent problems. Mr.Maria Louis, CIC staff welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest and Mr. Daniel Rathnakar. J. proposed the vote thanks.

The YWCA Arathi centre at Koramangala in association with YMCA CIC organised a carnival for the general public as part of the world week of prayer. The YMCA CIC staff displayed posters and distributed informative brochures to the gathering. We thank Mrs. A. P. Porkodi, the Principal, Bishop Cotton Women’s Law College, Bangalore for her leadership as the chairperson of the week of prayer 2010.

Christmas Programme

Christmas was celebrated at City YMCA on 8th December 2010, after the Annual General Meeting of the YMCA Bangalore. Dr. Vasant Renick, Auxiliary Secretary, Bible society of India brought the Christmas Message. Later the members of the YMCA board, staff and the full members of YMCA Bangalore took part in the Christmas dinner.

Annual General Body Meeting

The Annual General Body Meeting of the YMCA Bangalore was conducted on 8th December 2010.  Dr. J. Alexander, President, YMCA Bangalore presided over the meeting. Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary placed before the General Body, the Annual Report for the year 2009 -2010 and Dr. P. Sethu, Treasurer, presented the audited statement of accounts for the year 2009-2010. Dr. S. Philip Lewis, Vice-President proposed Vote of Thanks.

Family YMCA Branch programmes

The Family YMCA continues to serve the community in and around Benson Town with regular coaching in different sports activities such as Shuttle Badminton, Gym and Karate. Around 120 members are utilizing the facilities at the centre every day.

Sri. Muniyappa a senior staff at YMCA Kumbalgodu was felicitated on his superannuation.

  • Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore attended World Urban Network Meeting between 24th July 2010 till 4th August 2010 at Hong Kong.
  • Dr. M. Antony Isaac, Associate General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore attended National Board Meeting which was held on 18th September 2010 at GOA.
  • The A.O.S. Annual Conference was held at YMCA Chennai between14th to 17th October 2010. Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore & Vice-president of A.O.S. of India attended the conference.
  • The National Council of YMCAs of India organized National Consultation programme on the Theme: “Role of YMCA in Promoting Communication for Social Change” from 18th to 20th February 2011 at Trivendrum. Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, YMCA and Dr.M. Antony Isaac, Associate General Secretary attended the consultation.
  • Mr. S.V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, YMCA & Dr. M. Antony Isaac, Associate General Secretary visited Sri Lanka during October – November 2010 to make necessary arrangements for the international match exposure between YMCA Cricket academy and Sri Lanka Cricket Teams.
