World Environment Day

The World Environment Day programme will be normally conducted on 5th June, but this time it falls on Sunday, so it was very difficult to organize the programme at schools.

The World Environment Day programme was organized by YMCA Save Bangalore Movement Group on the Theme: “God’s Creation – Human Response” on Thursday, 16th June 2011 at 10.00 a.m. at Baldwin Opportunity School, Richmond Road, Bangalore. The programme was started with prayer by Rev. N.H. Jayawanth, In-charge Pastor – RTM Church, and Mr. S.V.Rathna Kumar, General Secretary –YMCA Bangalore welcomed the gathering. Invocation song was sung by Baldwin Opportunity School Children and there was a skit & song performed by the mentally challenged children.

Dr. A.N. Yellappa Reddy (Retd., IFS), Committed Environmentalist was the Chief Guest, planted the saplings to mark the World Environment Day and addressed the gathering. He quoted and said” Revive Greenery, Save Future” also he said we are the major agents who are poisoning the earth.   I call upon all the students to revive the greenery and protect the environment for the coming generation”.

Dr. N. Nandini, Chair Person, Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University presided over the function and gave the presiding officer’s remark and she laid emphasis on the role teachers can play in imbibing the habit of preserving nature among the young students.   Also she said “Besides normal trees, planting of medicinal plants, which can be used for healing various kind of wounds as well as mental illness, is equally important”.  The Principal of Baldwin Opportunity School proposed vote of thanks, more than 80m mentally challenged students were present.  Mr. P. Jayaseelan, Chairman, distributed sweets to the children. Mr. Tikil Tiwari, Mr. Praveen Ranka and Prof. T. Rajamani members of the YMCA Save Bangalore Movement were witnessed the programme.

Mr. Arun Ravindra Kumar Karodi co-ordinated and M.C. of this programme.
