Annual Summer Camp

The Annual Learn skill summer camp was inaugurated on 16th April 2008 by Dr. Mahesh Joshi, Director, Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra.  Mr. Vasanth, Rotary Club, Rtn. Baljeet Singh, Chairman, Summer camp, Mr. S.V. Rathnakumar, General secretary participated in the function.  The following are some of the highlights of the camp.

Around 500 children from City YMCA, 96 children from family YMCA and 40 children from Kumbalgodu YMCA enrolled for the camp.

Painting & drawing competition was conducted on 8th May 2008 for the campers. APSARA group of companies sponsored the water colours, pencils, crayons & certificates etc., for the competition.

Medical check up was conducted to all the campers on 30th April 2008 by   

Dr. Chandra Shekar, a government service doctor.

Quiz competion was conducted on 6th May for all the camp participants by Mr.Arulmani from the Karnataka Quiz association.

On 13th May 2008 a cultural evening and talents day was organized around 200 children and parents participated in the programme. Special skill camp was organized for the street children at our shelters in Kadugondanahalli & Murphy town.

A grand valedictory function was organized on 17th May 2008. Shri. J. Alexander I.A.S.(Rtd,.) President Bangalore YMCA was the chief guest. Rtn. Baljeet Singh, Chairman-summer camp organizing committee, Mr. S. V. Rathna Kumar, General Secretary, Mr. M. J. Narendranath, Former YMCA General Secretary participated in the function. The chief guest distributed certificates and prizes to the winners of various competitions during the camp.  The campers performed a music & dance programme before the function.

Felicitation to Dr.J. Alexander:  Dr. J. Alexander was felicitated in the same function on his selection as the president of the Bangalore District congress committee. Mr. S. V. Rathna Kumar on behalf of Bangalore YMCA presented a memento with a citation and Mr. M. J. Narendranath Honoured him with a shawl.

The following activities were carried out during the camp:

City YMCA: Cricket, Lawn Tennis, Foot Ball, Basket Ball, Swimming, Karate,  Computer Basics and Internet Awareness, Fun & Creative Workshops, Shuttle, Adventure Camp, Personality Development.

Family YMCA: Cricket, Shuttle Badminton, Table Tennis, Karate, Western Dance, Keep fit Programme, Music (Piano)

YMCA Rural Center: Kumbalgodu: Computer Basics and Karate

YMCA CIC Centers: K.G. Halli and Murphy Town: Cricket and Foot Ball - for CIC Children
