Adventure Camp at Yercaud
|
|
|
An Adventure camp was organized at Yercaud, twenty two students from different Schools participated and benefited out of the adventure Camp held at "House of peace" at Yercaud from 28th to 30th April 2008. The stay and the programme enriched students.

The main activities were Fun and fellowship games, Trekking and mountaineering, Learn to pitch tents and outdoor living, mould to be leader, Personality Development to face the changing world, Campfire, Yoga, Bird watching & Boating.

Personality Development Programme for School and College Students

A Personality Development programme for School and College students was organized from 10th April to 10th May 2008. Thirty boys and girls from different Schools and Colleges participated and benefited out of this programme.

"Youth For Social Action" One day Seminar at Bishop Cotton's Women's College

The YMCA Human Resource Development Department designed programme to college students to encourage them to be Volunteers in taking social activities at the YMCA or from their college. A one day seminar was organized at Bishop Cotton Women's Christian Law College on 19th August 2008. Fifty nine girls participated in the seminar. Thirty three girls gave their pledge form to be volunteers for Social Action work. The faculties were Mr. Samuel Jayakumar - General Secretary, S.C.M, Dr. M. Antony Isaac – Associate General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore, Mr. Saravanan from I.S.I, Mr. K. V. Jose – Chairman, HRD. Mrs. A. P. Porkodi Prabakaran- Principal, Bishop Cotton Women's Law College inaugurated the programme. The topic for the seminar were: 1) Awareness and understanding of Social problems in our society. 2) Understanding the social structures and our responsibility. 3) Encouraging the students to participate and act on social problems.

Model Corporation Competition

The YMCA Bangalore Human Resource Development Department organised a "Mock Corporation competition" programme on Thursday, 28th August 2008 at State Youth Centre from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. This programme was designed to educate and to make aware of the functioning of Corporation and to learn the right and duty of the people in civil society. 500 children, representing 14 Schools from Bangalore participated in this programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Shankar Bidari, I. P.S - Commissioner of Police, Bangalore city. Mr. Rathna Kumar – General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. Antony Isaac– Associate Gen. Secretary, YMCA Bangalore spoke about the programme. Dr. A. Ebenezer, President, YMCA Bangalore motivated the students in his presidential remark. Mr. K. V. Jose – Chairman, H.R.D graced the occasion.

Mr. Jayaramaraje Urs, I.A.S–Special commissioner of City Corporation Administration, Bangalore distributed the prizes in the evening. Lunch and Tea were provided to the students at the Venue. Newspapers and T. V channels covered this programme. Initially Dr. M. Antony Isaac – Associate Gen. Secretary of YMCA Bangalore trained the students at their School premises for this competition.

The Winners of the programme:- Army School Team - Rolling Trophy. The Runners: - St. Thomas School team. Three prizes were awarded to the Best Mayor's speech: - Ist –Goodwills High School, IInd – Army Public School, IIIrd – Cathedral School. The Best resolution was awarded to Bishop Cottons' Girls High School and the Best guard was awarded to Mitralaya Girls' High School. The Best Question Answers awarded to S.D.A School.

"Youth For Social Action" One Day Seminar at St. Josephs Commerce College

One day seminar was organized at St. Joseph's Commerce college on 13th September 2008. Fifty one boys and girls participated in the programme. The programme was mainly organized to motivate young people to be socially conscious and actively participate in eliminating the Social evil and problems. They were encouraged to enroll in youth for Social action programmes of YMCA. The topics were: 1) Awareness and understanding of Social problems in our society. 2) Understanding the social structures and our responsibility. 3) Encouraging the students to participate and act on social problems. Mr. R. A. Ravi – Member, HRD Committee co-ordinated the programme and Mr. Saravanan- ISI conducted the programme. This programme was co-sponsored by Indien Hilfe.

A One day workshop was organized on the theme "Future Community Work -The New Challenges" on 19th Nov 2008 in association with Student Christian Movement of India for people working in Social work organizations and the students of MSW. Fifty three people participated in this programme. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. S. V. Rathna Kumar – General Secretary, YMCA Bangalore, Mr. C. S. Gojer – V. Chairman, HRD, Dr. P. Sethu – Director, Indien Hilfe, Mr. Samuel Jayakumar – General Secretary , SCM.

Kreedotsava - 2009

An Inter-church Cricket and Throw ball tournament was organized in association with Y's Men's Club of Bangalore Sunshine and ICYM on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th January 2009 at YMCA ground, City YMCA, Nrupathunga Road, Bangalore -560001. Twenty two cricket teams representing various churches and eight Throw Ball Teams participated in this programme. Cricket Tournament was won by Vishwas Alaya Church and Throw Ball was won by St. Antony's Friary church. It was a great gathering of the members from different Christian denominations.
"Youth for Social Action" One day seminar at M. E. S college : A one day seminar was organized on 2nd Feb 2009 at M.E.S college. Forty boys and girls participated in this programme. The main topics were 1) Understanding the social problems. 2) Students participation in the social issues. This seminar was conducted by Mr. Saravanan from ISI. Twenty boys and girls filled up their pledge form to work for the social concern activities.

Youth for social action camp was organized in association with SCM at Yellagiri Hills from 13th to 16th Feb 2009. This camp was organized to encourage and inculcate in young people to be socially conscious so that they will participate effectively in addressing social problems. Thirty two young people were selected from those who submitted their pledge form during the Social action seminar that is from Bishop Cotton's Women Christian Law College, Kristu Jayanthi College, St. Joseph's Commerce College and Christ University, M.E.S College. The main components of this camp were: Village exposure, Live in experience, Studying social work agencies working with children, Trekking, Campfire, Camp games, Environment and ecology etc. The members who participated in the camp took an oath to take up social action at their college level and also to participate in the YMCA Programmes.
